As I recall the guy who stole it from him is the #1 disciple in the entire sect, so mc had to challenge him to a 10 year deathmatch duel on the stage of life and death. This also can get him 10 years of maybe some little safety from high level murderers in the sect, as the #1 guy wouldn't want to tarnish his reputation by having mc killed before the duel.
